What replaces savvy in a pickle?
I knew a guy who always wanted
to hitch a ride to the end game,
skip past the joy and pain of learning.
I guess he thought it was the easy way,
getting carried to the shore.
Thunder cracking overhead, lightning
looking to strike the shell you’re in,
a confused sea sick on all sides,
wondering why we are in the way.
One blinking beacon, maybe imagined,
too far away.
The trouble with adventure,
if you haven’t earned your way,
is that the boat fills up with water
faster than your experience can bail.
I knew a guy who always wanted
to hitch a ride to the end game,
I heard he doesn’t do that anymore,
there’s danger getting carried to the shore.
